Scientific Coordinator – Economics

Usamah Alfarhan is a Ph.D. holder from Texas Tech University in Lubbock / Texas, having graduated in the summer of 2010. His main areas of research interest are earnings differentials, inequality and discrimination, migration and GCC labor market policies. He possesses six years of professional experience, during which he worked at the Jordan Securities Commission on international trade agreements in financial services, in addition to his post as Macro-Fiscal Economist at the Fiscal Reform Project in Amman, funded by the United States Agency for International Development. Dr. Alfarhan has spent two academic years at King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia, before joining the Department of Economics and Finance at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman in 2013. In his current post, Dr. Alfarhan teaches labor and mathematical economics. He has been published in the International Labour Review and served as a reviewer for leading journals, such as World Development. Ongoing research projects cover the topics of gender gaps in academic achievement, migration and earnings differentials in the GCC, and gender labor market discrimination.
