Gulf Labour Markets and Migration

An international independent, non-partisan, non-profit joint programme of a major Gulf think tank and a globally renowned academic migration centre
The programme provides data, analyses, and recommendations contributing to the improvement of understanding and management of
Gulf labour markets and migration, engaging with and respecting the viewpoints of all stakeholders



The Gulf Labour Markets and Migration programme organizes round table expert meetings (using the Chatham House Rules) and public conferences, preferably with partners based in the Gulf. The GLMM organizes also panels and workshops in major international academic meetings.


The GLMM Workshop on “The Economics of Migration to the Gulf: Perspectives from Countries of Origin and Destination” is directed by Prof. Ganesh Seshan (Georgetown University, Doha) and Prof. Usamah Alfarhan (Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat). It is part of the seventh annual Gulf Research Meeting (GRM) which is takes place in Cambridge from 16 till 19 August 2016 and is organised by the Gulf Research Center Cambridge (GRCC). Round Table


On 9 and 10 March 2014 in Doha, the GLMM organized an invitation-only roundtable discussion on “Labour Migration in the Arab Gulf Countries: Issues, Data, Documents and Research” together with QatarUniversity’s Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) and Gulf Studies Program (GSP). The meeting was attended by governmental and academic experts from all six GCC countries and from elsewhere. For more information please click here.

Gulf Research Meeting (GRM)

GLMM organizes workshops in the Gulf Research Meeting which is an annual meeting organized by the Gulf Research Center in Cambridge (UK) and has become the most important global meeting where original papers are presented on all major aspects of the Gulf.


Since the 1st GRM the GLMM has organized six workshops on Gulf migration:
